Frisian Names

Frisian names are used in Frisia, which consists of the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands (i.e. West Frisia); East Frisia in northwestern Germany; and North Frisia in the far north of Germany.

A complete Frisian name usually consists of a given name, sometimes a middle name (which was often a patronym or a matronym in earlier times), and a family name. See European names for a list of the usual sources of Frisian given names. See also Dutch names and German names.

The word name in Frisian is namme (plural nammen), while given name is foarnamme (plural foarnammen).
