Meaning & History

The first element of this name is derived from Gothic gairu (gêr in Old High German) "spear", or from garva (garo in Old High German, and gearu in Anglo-Saxon) "ready, prepared." The second element is derived from Old High German falko "falcon". This is the name of a village in the Italian municipality Montieri - the Germanic origin of the village's name suggest the presence of Germanic peoples at the time that the village was founded.
