Combination of Swedish ör, an archaic word meaning "gravel", and BRO "bridge. Örebro is both a city and a county. The city is located in NÄRKE just west of Lake HJÄLMAREN. Örebro County consists of NÄRKE and about half of VÄSTMANLAND (as well as small parts of other provinces).
