[Facts] Spelling of names in other languages
I've heard that "Aisling" means "Shirley" in Irish. Can you tell me what the Scottish version is of "Shirley" and how it is spelled? Thanks you.

Where did you hear that Aisling was the Irish version of Shirley? That is completely inaccurate! Aisling is from an Irish word meaning "dream; vision." It is a type of poem in which Ireland is portrayed as a beautiful girl in distress. It became popular as a girls' name in the 1800s in Ireland. It has no connection to the name Shirley.Shirley was originally an English surname comprised of words meaning "sunny; bright" + "clearing/meadow/field." It has no Scottish equivalent.
