[Facts] need roots
i have no earthly idea where my last name, cathey, came from. beyond the rough and tumble of five or
six generations of catheys in texas and oklahoma, i have only a blurry remembrance of france being
mentioned as the emigration country of my distant family. does anybody reading this post have any
ideas about the name cathey? let me know at the above address.
thanks,
charles

Charles,
Try www.genforum.com, and when the site comes up, just type Cathey in the Forum Finder box. It'll take you to an all-Cathey message board with (at last count) 558 messages. Surely there you'll find the info you want or link up with someone who can help.
Lots of Catheys around here (western NC) too. There was an 18th-century Cathey's Fort a coupla counties over used as a HQ against the Cherokees, and a huge Chrysler dealership in our town is owned by John Cathey. Bought one there myself.
As a rule I post responses public but I'll drop you an e-mail to let you know it's here. Good luck!
