[Opinions] Esmerelda
I love the name Esmerelda so much. what does everybody else think. what do you think the chances are that it will be Esme for short(which i would rather it was not). Please though no discussion of how we should not talk about nn as they are not up to us. ( no offence Lissa Hannah). That is not what i am looking for, just an idea. i am not choosing a nn nor am i denying any future Esmerelda a nn. Thank you. P.S none of that was meant in any way to antagonise.

I tihnk it's a very beautiful name especially for a dark haired girl. i actually had a dream once where i had a daughter named Esmeralda. Actually it was triplet, 2 boys & a girl. Justin, Gregory, & Esmeralda. Although, they weren't names i usually think about but I like them. I'd just make sure to call her Esmeralda all the time. Personally i don't care for nns. If she wants a nn let her find it when she's ready.
No offense taken, Clara. We're all allowed our opinions :)
I wouldn't think it would be shortened to Esme. I can't think of a quick nickname coming from it. Maybe Relda? I know a woman who was so sure she was having a girl (ended up a boy), and was going to name her daughter Esmerelda, and call her Mer.

Esmerelda is nms...sorry
It's so long (and, to me anyway, it's old-fashioned sounding), it's bound to get nicked somehow. Esme or Esmee seems to me to be a pretty unlikely candidate where I live (US).. it seems as formal as the long name to me. I think it's more likely her friends might just call her Esmy (or Ezzie, Emsy, Esmie, or whatever a child's natural shortening of Esmerelda in her dialect would be). Meri or Meryl is another possibility, though a little more artificial.
