[Opinions] Dinah
I've just read the Red Tent, a book based on Dinah's story. Its an awesome book, that deals quite a bit about women, their roles, etc. Anyway, after reading this book, I've thought about the name Dinah. I've known lots of people to name their children after characters in books (my brother did it with both of his children) So, what do you think? In the book it was pronunced Dee-nah, not Dinah. Would that be a problem? Overall, waht do you think of the name?Siri

I love The Red Tent I finished reading it a while ago and posed about Dinah when I was done. I would stil pronounce it Dye-nah since thats how the characters name is pronounced Biblically, I'm not sure why the author changed it. Its a shame though I used to love the names Simon and Levi but I would never use them now, I can't get the idea of their horrid crime out of my head.

I like the name, but I've always pronounced it DIE-nah. DEE-nah is Dina to me. I think pronouncing Dinah as DEE-nah would cause confusion in most English-speaking countries.Miranda

Dinah *is* prononced dee-nah normally :)
I love the name, but the Biblical story isn't a good omen for a child imo. Indeed, the name is rare among Jewish people. :)

I don't care for it. But, with that pronunciation, I think it would cause problems.

I prefer the DY-nah pronounciation, but overall I like the name - its not a favourite but its different & nice.
