[Opinions] WDYT of Ashes?
Ashley is so popular, and I like word names, so WDYT of Ashes for a girl? mn will most likely be Elizabeth or Elizabeta.

Sorry but it reminds me of a black or grey cat

Ashes... no, really??? It has a terrible meaning in English...Asher (ah-shair) is nice on a boy, Ashley is ok... But Ashes... please, no!

I dislike itI'd go with Ashby, Ashton or something instead.Ashes makes me think of cremation ... And yet I do love Ember. Also, the combo Ashes Elizabeth seems very hiss-y, if that makes sense.

I don't like it at all because the first thing that I think of is "Ashes, Ashes we all fall down" and "Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust" and plus cigarette ashes just gross me out.

Ugh, I don't like it at all! Might as well name her Cremains.

Ashes is a word - a noun - I dislike many "word" names. Plus, it's too cutesy and nickname-y for a person. It wouldn't age well. Can you see a Dr. Ashes Jones? I can't. I don't care about popularity, and I think Ashley is a great name. Ashley Elizabeth is very nice.

To me, it sounds too harsh and dark. Also if you try and be too trendy it may not sound very good later in life.

Although it was used by the Puritans (along with Dust), it's far too over-the-top and "wordy" for me. It's also slightly depressing because of the phrase "ashes to ashes", as others have pointed out.Asha or even Aislin / Aisling's a better choice for a girl imo. For a boy, Ashley (which isn't overused for boys at all), Asher, Ashton, or perhaps even Ashmead could be used.Miranda

I don't like it. How about Ashlyn instead?

Ash isn't a good thing to be named after, it's way too related to death and the name doesn't sound that nice either.

It's gothy, vampirey, seems way over-the-top to me. And very downbeat for a person's name .. 'all that is left is ashes' .. 'ashes to ashes, dust to dust' .. ashes are generally expected to be either dirt to be disposed of, or human remains. If you're into that sort of fanciful word name, it's not the worst; but I like Asha, Ashlynn, Ashlin, or even just Ash better. - chazda

I don't like it1) It reminds me of a funeral: "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..."
2) Ashes are dirty, sooty and a pain in the patoot to clean up.

I would probably use the more formal name Ashley and use Ashes as a nn... when i first read it though it made me think ashes ashes they all fall down...
