I have an uncle Roy too, my mother's older brother. His name isn't short for anything afaik.
Roy's the only person I know who's been in jail (a minor charge, presumably, but I don't know exactly what). He's looks like your typical scary biker, but is actually quite nice, albeit a little odd. He's very smart, like most of my family, but has difficulty dealing with people.
He was also the only member of my immediate maternal family with whom we had a decent relationship. He's the only one who really cared about me and Jeannie, and Mom.
So, yeah, the name Roy's got good connotations for me. It's quite unusual and somewhat dated nowadays too, which gets points from me.
