I don't like the name for either gender. It reminds me of eye lid.

It reminds me of a cross between Aylen and Aleta (or Aleit), both feminine names. But -ett seems masculine, I agree.

I would accept Alette as a variant of Aleta for a girl, but Aylett is nms--unless it's on a boy and it's a family surname.

How do you pronounce it? A-lett? I think it would be cute on a boy. But I do agree with you that it doesn't seem like a girl's name, at least not for me.
