[Facts] German spelling of the name Donna, also the meaning of Von
I am of German descent and am interested in the spelling in German of the name Donna. I would also like to know the meaning of the German words Von and Staufer. Thank you.Dee Collins-Wooddeecollinswood@hotmail.com

I'm afraid, I didn't get the question. Are you talking about the first name DONNA? This is Italian, and there is no German spelling to it. Or are you talkin about a surname, that sounds like DONNA, but is originally German and spelled differently in Germany? Inthe latter case I would suggest DONNER (thunder) originally denoting a person who easily gets angry.VON just means "of" or „from“ and it's part of many names that look noble but aren't (Von Rabenau). Often it has become part of the name (Vonderlinden = from the lime-trees).STAUFER has two possible derivations: dweller by a „stouf“ (a Middle High German word for a rock rising high) / from various place-names in Germany, Austria or Switzerland: Stauf, (Hohen)Staufen
In fact the two have the same root: Old High German „stouf“ or „stauf“ means „mug, cup“, so the rock was compared to a cup turned upside down, and this gave name to the places as well.Andy ;—)
