The McWhirter twins were the founders of the Guinness Book of Records, Norris and Ross.
Ross was murdered by the IRA in 1975 and Norris died last year.

They both presented Record Breakers on the BBC with Roy Castle
http://www.screenonline.org.uk/tv/id/571186/index.html which was based on the Guinness Book of Record, which I used to watch until Roy Castle died because it was the same. Roy Castle was born in Huddersfield and used to go to a drama school in Elland (where I live)
