[Opinions] Felicity
What do you think of the name Felicity? My friend is having her first child in May and is thinking of naming her this. I think its very pretty.

I don't care for it. I think it's a very weak sounding name.

It's a bit cheesy and frilly to me, but ok.
Love it!

I'm not a fan of that name. Not to trash the name, because I don't actually think it's that awful, but since you are asking.. just so you know why I don't like it, I'll give you my stack of small trivial reasons which, when put together, make a good case for me to not care for it:
It seems influenced by some recent pop culture character; the word itself is archaic and twee, so it feels lame to me to say it aloud as a form of address; I can't picture a dignified, accomplished, professional woman in middle age with that name; I can't picture a lover crying it out in passion (at least not without laughing); despite the positive meaning, the sound of Felicity is vaguely like some drippy, negative words (illicit, complicity, fellatio) and like very few positive words; it's a name I liked as a very young child so I think of it as a name that suits the taste of children and belongs on a pet; there are no attractive short forms.
ETA I admit that since I don't like it, I've probably exaggerated the case considerably. It's not like I'd burst into snide giggles on meeting someone named Felicity. No offense intended to those who like it, it's just my feeling about the name itself.
