[Opinions] Zuzu
I am considering naming my daughter (due in July) Zuzu. I love the name and can't even think of another name I like better for this child. My daughter, Autumn (8), also loves the name - my husband is open to it and its really growing on him. We wanted a more traditional middle name so if she decided later to use it, she could. Any ideas that sound good with Zuzu and Lewis (as the last name)?? I've also been searching the meaning (other than being from the movie, It's a Wonderful Life. I've heard its a form of Susan, a Czech name & a form of Yuseff - any other links or resources to help with this??

Please consider using it as a nn, like others have mentioned. I really don't even care for it as a nn, but that is MUCH better than using it as a formal name, imo. Besides the fact that Zuzu Lewis is too many 'oooo' sounds, imo, Zuzu seems like a name likely to get teased. It just has a "silly" sound to it, and maybe she'd get told she looks or smells like she belongs in a zoo! :(
Why not Susannah, Suzette, Suzanne and you can call her Zuzu at home? But she can go by her fn or Suzie at school/with friends.

I love your daughter's name, Autumn :-)
I love unusual names, but still Zuzu is too out-there for me. I also think the repeating syllables make it sound childish / nicknamey. It's probably a pet form of Zuzanna or Zsuzsanna (sp?)
I think Zuzanna would be a better name, and it goes very well in a sibling set - Autumn and Zuzanna, maybe with Zuzu as a nickname.

I think the name Zuzu is SO cute! So different and unique. She'll be quite a little character with that name. I love it.
I know a little girl named Azura who is sometimes called Zuzu. Personally, I would only use Zuzu as a nickname. I love the name Azura, and the nn Zuzu is cute, or what about Zoe, Suzanne, Suzette, or Susannah?

Zuzu might not be a good idea.
Its very, very hard to start going by another name. My parents did the same thing you're thinking of-gave me an unusual first name with a traditional middle name so I could switch. I've tried many times to do so over the years. Finally, at 23, I've made some progress.
That's why I suggest giving your daughter the name Susannah or Suzette, and calling her ZuZu at home. If she wants to carry the nickname to school, fine. If she doesn't, then she has an option. Its an option I wish I had had.

I agree. It's a cute name, I'll give you that, but it doesn't sound respectable at all. Dr. Zuzu Lewis? Don't think so. Dr. Susan Lewis (or something similar) totally works. Give her an actual full name, so she has the option to go by something else, should she choose to, and CALL her Zuzu.
Like Dr. Susan Lewis from ER? yeah that works, lol :b
Zoe?
I saw a show once... a little girl was named Zoe, and ZuZu was her nickname. Zoe is a nice name. :)

To be blunt, Zuzu sounds like a name for a dog. It's very immature sounding; too nickname-y. It wouldn't suit an adult at all. Susannah would be much better, with Zuzu as a nickname, but I don't like the idea of planning a formal name around a nickname. My reasoning: what if the child doesn't like the nickname? Then you've just settled for a formal name. In any case, I would abandon the name of I couldn't find a good formal name that I truly loved. As for a middle name, I suggest Zuzu Abigail.

Autumn is a very pretty name, :) does she have a middle name also?
Zuzu is nice but a bit nicknamey and wouldn't age well imo, I would use it as a nn for Zuleika or Suzanne / Suzette
Zuzu Elisabeth
Zuzu Emily
Zuzu Grace
Zuzu Violet
Zuzu Charlotte

Suzette is lovely...
I too agree that Zuzu is very nicknamish. I'm not fond of the 'z' sounding names. On the other hand, Suzette is beautiful, not to mention fun to say :)
