It looks like a nickname which has something to do with Germanic names starting with

Wold-/Wald-/Walt- (like Waldemar, Walter etc.) meaning: ruler
Volk- (like Volker, Volkmar etc) meaning: people
Wolf- (like Wolfgang, Wolfram etc.) meaning: wolf
