Help[Opinions] how would you pronounce....
Aida if you knew nothing of names or didn't click on the link? When I first looked at it I thought it was pronounced AY-DA like in Aiden, they have the same begining but Aida is pronounced ah-EE-da. I think both names are beautiful but I like the pronounciation AY-DA better spelled, Aida, would that be too confusing??

For that pronunciation, I'd go with Adah, which is lovely anyway :-)

I can't imagine not knowing how to pronounce it (there's the musical and all....) but I might go AY-duh... 'cos it's pretty.

I'd use Ada for the AY-da pronunciation. The thing about Aida is that it's properly (in the Verdi, at least) spelled Aïda, with the dieresis above the "i". The dieresis causes the "i" to be pronounced independently, instead of being combined into a diphthong. In French, Italian, and most languages which use "pure"er vowels than English, "i" is pronounced "ee", hence ah-EE-dah.
I like both Aïda and Ada.

Unfortunately I already know Aida's correct pronunciation so I won't be able to speculate otherwise. Anyone who's been exposed to or had to learn anything about Verdi will probably be familiar with Aida, or at least familiar enough to recognize the name/opera Aida.
I personally prefer ay-da spelled Ada although that spelling isn't foolproof either as I've heard some people pronounce it add-a. That being said, it may be just as confusing for the child to have people say ah-ee-da instead of ay-da and wonder why.
