[Opinions] Keira
WDYT of this name? Is it more proper to spell it Keira or Kiera-does anyone know? (I know that the Irish spelling is Ciara, which I love, but in North America I don't think anyone would pron. it correctly unfortunately!) Which do you like more? Keira/Kiera or Caitlin? I can't decide between them! Caitlin is just so darn overused-that's what holds me back.

I LOVE Keira! It´s my favorite name for a girl. I personally like the spelling Keira better than Kiera, but it doesn´t matters really.

Kiera's the more correct Anglo spelling, I believe. After all, you rarely see Keiran instead of Kieran. Keira Knightley has made Keira newly popular, but I think Kiera's been used more often and longer amongst English speakers.I like Kiera and Ciara both, but I agree that unfortunately Ciara would be often mispronounced in NA. Especially now that there's an increasingly popular rap/R&B singer named Ciara, who pronounces her name SEE-ahr-ah. So, Kiera it is for ease of pronunciation and nice looks imo.I don't like Caitlin, pronounced KAYT-lin. It's too overused, yes, and anyway I prefer the proper Irish form, Caitlín (pronounced KAHT-leen or KOYT-leen, depending on where you are in Ireland), or the Anglicised form of Caitlín, which is Kathleen or Cathleen.

I really like Keira and I like it much better than Caitlin (although this spelling is nice). I prefer the spelling Keira because it looks like it should be prn. KEER-a to me. Kiera looks like KEE-air-a."A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession."- Albert Camus

Definitely Kiera, not Keira.(1) Kiera is the traditional Anglicization of Ciara, just like Kieran from Ciaran for a boy.(2) Ciara (= KEE-uh-ruh). Therefore the spelling Kiera is most consistent (KEE-uh-ruh). Keira would seem more like (kuh-EE-ruh) to me. I'm not an expert in Gaelic/Irish linguistics, but in Russian (which I have studied) there is an accepted way to transliterate from one language to another. It makes sense to me that Irish would have the same.

I really like the Kiera spelling, but I don't know if it's the right one, it does come closerst to Ciara I guess, but as you say, in N-America people might not pronounce it right... And I definitely like Kiera or Keira (whatever spelling you use!) better than Caitlin! It is overused, as you say, and I like other spellings of this name a lot better, like Katelyn. But don't let the fact that something is being used a lot hold you back, because the important thing is that you have to like it!~Lully Lulla~

My favourite Anglo spellings are Keyra, Keara and Kiera in that order. I live in Scotland, so Ciara in all its spellings is very popular here._____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor
