After I had my first child I named him Atreyu. The only problem is I can not figure out where it came from or who thought it up. It is driving me crazy. I have been trying for 2years to figure out where this name came from. if anyone has any ideas, please let me know, thanks.

The sobering part is that I "recall" the movie as coming out - what, 7,8 years ago? - but the kid that played Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) is now 31 years old! Hmmm...

Hello Heather,"The Never Ending Story" is a book written by the German author Michael Ende (1929-1995). The book is from 1979. One of the characters in the book is this boy Atreyu (written Atreju in the German original) who tries to safe the fantasia-world. The name is probably just a fantasy-fiction of the author Michael Ende.

How odd! I have been trying to name my son this same name, and I came upon this letter trying to find the meaning as well. I really like the name because it is not common. It has a very nice sound to it. If you have any more information on Atreyu, please e-mail me @ code7d@aol.com or dawlsjh@aol.com

In trying to find a meaning for this name, I found it means "son of everybody". I don't know the origin. Kind of appropriate for the son of everybody to be chosen to save the world from apathy. :-)
