I'm actually planning on naming my daughter Karis. I think Charis would be constantly pronounced wrong and my last name is complicated enough, no one can pronounce it. I think the spelling Charis is probably more accurate than Karis, either Charis or Kharis seem to be the usual spellings and Charis is used most for the name.

Charis should be pronounced "HAH-rees", the 'hah' being a bit like the sound in 'up', and the 'r' being rolled. The 'h' is one of those back-of-the-throat sounds (not like the soft 'h' in 'hello', it's deeper and more difficult to pronounce if you didn't grow up using it).

The most correct spelling would be Haris, I think. Like the singer Haris Alexiou.
