raistlin - no! i mean, names bear with them some meaning... and you really don't want to give your kid that sort of baggage, do you? :D that, and raistlin is beginning to become a bit of a trendy name. trendy names can make kids wedgie-targets in school. also, consider a girl i know. her name is galadriel. yeah, a very pretty name, to be sure. but then when the lotr movies came out, she got picked on for the geek quotient of her name.

dayllan - again, no. i have three rules for appropriate names.
1. is it easilly pronouncable? many people may look at the name dayllan and be confused as to how to pronounce it. this is not to say that all names should be spelled phonetically - for example, everyone can pronounce philip, even though the 'ph' makes an 'f' sound.
2. is it indicative of the child's sex? i'm all for raising kids as gender-neutral as possible. however, a gender-neutral name will cause more trouble than it's worth. for example, aaron/erin is ok, if the gender-appropriate spelling is used. jesse/jessie is less so, since i've seen many girls named jesse. dayllan does indeed look like a butchered version of dillan, and thus there may be some confusion as to the gender of the name.
3. avoid cutesy names/name combinations. also avoid very trendy names for the reason given above. some examples of cutesy names - Chanda Lear, Savannah Storm (i actually saw this name in the course of my work), Candace (Candy) Hart (a classmate of a friend), Crystal Ball. and so on. don't get me wrong, i don't like very common names - jennifer, bryan, etc. - for children either. nothing wrong with them, just overdone.

Eleanor is a name i've been somewhat partial to as well. a little old-fashioned, but not incredibly so, and Ellie is a cool nickname.

sadly, i don't see too many uncommon, un-trendy boy names at my job. boys are less likely to have an uncommon name. i'm sorry i can't really help there.

Raistlin I don't like at all, sorry. Nobody will ever spell this right

I'm very wary of using these culty, fantasy-genre names on actual children - not only because I dislike that genre myself ;-) I just can't see a child with one of those names being the cool kid at school. Not that every child has to be the cool kid - not at all. I just mean that if you can't even picture it because of his name, then said name will be a social disadvantage for him, even if it's only mildly. (Incidentally, I think Raistlin sounds like an over-the-counter medicine, sorry!!)

Daylen would be pretty. Both spellings Dayllan and Daelen look awkward to me, though I'd definitely pick Daelen if I had to. Norelle seems made-up and just doesn't have much impact imo. With Daylen not being an established name, I'd prefer the middle name to be something established. Daylen Isabella, Daylen Sophia, Daylen Katerina, Daylen Julianna would all be lovely.

I'm sorry, but those names make me cross my eyes. I dislike naming children after fictional characters, so I don't care for Raistlin, which doesn't even feel/sound like a name. Dayllan Norelle, or Daelen, is very creative and trendy, and both spellings of Dayllan and Daelen are bad, but if I had to choose a spelling, it'd be Daelen. Sorry to be blunt.

I don't care for either, though Raistlin does sound very close to Wrestling, which was a name in vogue with the Pilgrims and Puritans. It's not really one of the more traditional Virtue names associated with them, but I've always liked Wrestling.

Moreover, Raistlin sounds like a redneck saying "wrestling." Wrestling is kind of a neat name, though--it always makes me think of James Mortmain's book Jacob Wrestling, where the title refers to Jacob wrestling with the angels or something like that.

Dayllan is going to be interpreted by the average person as an exceedingly kreaytif version of Dylan. If I was a Dayllan, I'd hate it.
