What do you think of Bronte for a girl?

It doesn't sound feminine to me at all and reminds me of the word brontasaurus. Not a great name for a girl in my opinion.

I would only use it on a girl, because it's so much more connected to the female Brontes in my mind. I find it really pretentious though, like naming your son Monet or Charles Dickens - it's a lot to live up to! Also, the sound isn't attractive.

One of my pet peeves is when people name children Monet, etc. and have no idea who Monet was.

It doesn't sound at all feminine to me. In fact, it sounds downright ugly imo. It also reminds me of "brontosaurus", and of course the Bronte sisters.
If forced, I would only use it as a mn for a boy.

I rather like it. I think it has a good spunky quality to it. I am a fan of good literature and the Bronte sisters wrote good books. I tried to collect a list of good strong literature related names a while back but most people didn't like the connection.

I think of the sisters...
None of which I know much about. The name is NMS (not really into surnames, and it's rather harsh-sounding), but if someone does like the works of one or more of the sisters, then I think it's perfectly fine way to honor them (other than using their first names).
Also, with the pronunciation that this site gives, I think there needs to be the little marks (gahh, blanking on what they're called) over the 'e'-- Brontë. Because, otherwise, at best, it makes me say BRAHNT-ehy, and at worst, it makes me say BRAHNT.

umlauts
The accents over the e's are called umlauts. Like this: ë. You can make it by turning your num-locks on, holding down the alt key, and typing 0235 on the number keypad on the right side of your keyboard.

Well, I'm the exception
I rather like Brontë, since it reminds me of the sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë. I love their novels.
And I don't find Brontë any harsher than Bridget or Brianna. I like it much more than ln-as-fn like Madison, McKenzie, Taylor, Hunter etc.
Though I'm afraid the spelling would be butchered in USA; Americans don't seem to use accent marks.
