[Opinions] Anderson
What does everyone think of the name Anderson?I *know* it means son of Andrew but I always loved the Hans Christian Anderson stories when I was little and therefore the nameFinn Anderson is one of my favourite combos at the moment, I would only use it as a middle name Alice

My favourite names are Iris Lyra, Freya Jasmine, Henry Atticus and Finn AndersonProud big sister to Sophie and Isabel

Anderson is completely surname-y to me. And I dislike all Finn- names - I do not find them masculine toned. The combo Finn Anderson is double surname-y, and then adding on the actual surname is overload, I think.

His name was Hans Christian AndersEnSo if you want to give a son this surname as mn to honor Hans Christian Andersen, please spell it right. Why not use Hans or Christian as mn? Finn Christian sounds good to me.That said, I dislike ln-as-fn. But since it is the mn here and you have a real reason for using it, I think Finn Andersen sounds good.

From a Dane: Thank you Ylva!Nothing annoys me more, as when someone spells his ln wrong. :-/And I love that Finn Andersen. It has a very true ordinary Danish sound to it. :-)Thanks again.

Sorry Would you know ... tell me if I am just being ignorant, is Andersen just a varient of Anderson (or vice versa)? I.e. does it mean the same thing?About using Hans and Christian ... even though I am a Christian myself; I wouldn't use the name Christian just like I wouldn't use the word Pagan, it has never seemed right to me
Hans I have pretty bad personal associations with this name, althought I had thought about it Thanks :)Alice

I quite like Anderson, but I love surnames in general (Harrison & Kiefer top my boys' list). I love Finn (preferable as a nn for Finnegan) but just Finn works better with Anderson - overall I give this combo a 9! I think its absolutely fabulous.

I don't like it much of all. Because I know so many people with the surname Anderson (this is what comes of living in the Midwest--lots of Germans and Dutch and Scandinavians!), it doesn't sound particularly first namey to me.As a middle name, though, I think it works nicely. I think that surnames-as-middle-names sound really dignified and old-fashioned--it's a better trend than surnames-as-first-names. :)Finn Anderson works relatively well, though there's a bit much N together. If I was using it, I'd do something like Harold Anderson or Alfred Anderson. Array

Sounds like a last name to me.

Finn Anderson is a nice combo, though I don't care for either name. I much prefer Andrew (Andrew is, in fact, my favourite name) as Anderson reminds me too much of The Matrix! ;-)

I think the main character's last name is Anderson. I suppose the association is good or bad depending on if you like the films...I'm not into sci-fi, so I don't. ^ ^

Sorry, I see it as a surname & I dont't like surnamey names for children, except possibly when it is a family surname. I much prefer just Andrew, Finn Anderson does however go together nicely.~ * ~ Evy ~ * ~

Thanks, I don't usually like last names on children either usually. I do like using last names of my favourite poets or artists (as middle names) thoughAlice (who has a 6 hr AS exam on Monday!)

I think Anderson sounds very nice as a first or middle name. And as many last names (Bailey, Mason, etc.) are becoming trendy as first names, I think it wouldn't sound too unusual. However, I think Finn is rather unkind as a first name if the child is ever going to attend school; it's so uncommon and rhymes with the noun 'fin'.
