[Opinions] Ellie?
Lately, I've been really starting to like the nn Ellie, WDYT? I used to love it as a nn for Eleanor but DH has vetoed that and now I'm thinking about Elisabeth / Elizabeth or Ella (leaning towards Ella). Which one do you prefer and why? Do you like Ellie, Elly, or Eli (which looks like Eee LIE to me but is similar to my sister's nn Ali)? Other suggestions? I'd really prefer to have a more formal name since its one of those rare nn that I like most (if not all) formal possibilities (unlike Maggie).

NO ELLA as a first full name!My niece's first name is Gabriella, but we call her Ella for short. Elizabeth (this spelling only), Gabriella, Fiorella, and other names ending in the suffix "-ella." "Dance like no one's watching."

I'd chose Elisabeth over Ella.

I love the nn Ellie too (sp like that). I like Ella better than Elizabeth becauce Elizabeth is more commonly heard and Ella is just so pretty. I like the name Helene Helena or Elena with nn Ellie too. My g aunt was named Zoe Helene and always went by nn Ellie.

I really love the name Eleanor with the nn Ellie. Since your husband vetoed it I would pick Elisabeth/Elizabeth over Ella. Ella is short enough and really doesn't need a nn in my opinion. What about Elena or Eliana?

I love the nn Ellie! I'd use Elisabeth or Ella. Of the two, I prefer Ella, but I can't really think of why.

Ellie is very cute. I strongly dislike Eli as a spelling alternative, however. Elsa would be my favorite formal name for Ellie. Here are a few others:Elspeth, Ella, Elena, Eloise, Eliza, Elisheva, Ellen, Elvira (el-VEER-a).

I absolutely adore Eloise as well, but my DH's not that into it :(

Elizabeth is a better choice than Ella since Ella itself is really kind of a nickname. There's also Ellen, Elaine, Elena, Elspeth - pretty much anything starting with El.
Join the Ellie club - it's a HUGE nickname in the US, and as a stand-alone name is #1 in England. There will be many other Ellies with your daughter.

How about Ellen? (my middle name, and I tend to think of Ellie as a nn for it)
