I don't care for Constantin (it leads me to the word constipation), and while Gus is a nickname for it, I do not see it coming from it, and I do not think nicknames should be planned, but should be left up to the child.

I like it, but I prefer the spelling Constantine. I like the nn Gus, but I can't really see how it could be derived out of Constantin...

Constantin is a bit pretentious in my opinion (kind of like Maximilian). I have a friend named Konstantin (he's from the Ukraine) and it works for him, so maybe you could pull it off. I like the nn Gus, but how did you get that from Constantin?
