I've been told Anya is a foreign name for Anna but i dont know if this is true does anyone know what it means and what origin it is? Much appreciated if anyone can help thanx

it might be hungarian for mother as my family is half hungarian and that is what they told me.

It is Russian and it is pet form of
Anna
. I think it's very sweet. It is also used in scandinavian coutries and it's spelt
Anja
(i think).
