[Opinions] Dawn
I was just thinking of the name Dawn today and realized that I kind of associate it with the late 70s. Do you find it stale and dated? Do you think it could make a comeback anytime soon? What are your impressions of Dawn?

Funny, I was just thinking about this name! I grew up in the 70's and had three friends named Dawn over the years. I really like it and think it's very pretty. It would be nice to hear it have a comeback.

I do find it to be dated. And I don't care for the sound of it. With my accent, it's hard to distinguish Don from Dawn, so it doesn't sound particularly feminine to me (nor when one accentuates the "AW" part to distinguish it from Don :-/). Also, most of the Dawns I've known weren't nice. So I guess it's difficult to have a good association with it. :b

I find Dawn outdated and boring. I went to kindergarten with a girl named Dawn (88-89) and have a cousin with the same name who is in her mid thirties. It's not a name I like one bit.

Her name is Dawn Rose, which I think is a nice combo. Dawn sounds plain to me, and I would only use Rose a s a middle name. I used to love the Combo Emma Rose.

I prefer Aurora, but I still love Dawn. It's one of those names that's just bound to make a comeback (Helen, Alice, Linda, Heidi, etc.) I always think 60's love child when I hear Dawn, and that's not a bad thing.

Whenever I hear the name Dawn for some reason I get the impression of a woman or little girl who lives in a trailer park in a not-so-rich section of a USA town. It does seem rather dated and I don't know why. It has in some way a hippy sound to it perhaps because of it's nature quality.
But I think it could have a recovery because I know a couple who recently named their daughter Ivy Dawn and thought is was such a pretty combo, and I don't really like either name in general! :)

I do.I know too many Dawns as well - all born in the late '70s. I doubt it will make a comeback any time soon - and anyway, Aurora is prettier and more in-tune with today's sounds.

I think it's a beautiful name, not dated at all. I've heard complaints of Dawn being mistaken for Don, and therefore girls are mistaken for boys. Because of that, I don't think it'll make a comeback soon . . . but who knows, right?
