Nope, I don't think it's too much. It's not like Madonna or Cher. It's about as strong an association as, say, Whitney with W. Houston... it's about as rare, and the singer about as well-known. If I met a young Mariah I would not assume she was named for the singer. I'd think of the song, too, which I heard long before the singer showed up. I like the name a lot.
