When, tall, dark and handsome, American Naval officer James Killier was transfered to Japan the last thing he expected was to have a good time. It had been a hard period in Jem's life with his father just passing away that past summer after a long battle with cancer. It had just been him to be there emotionally for his mom - then this transfer that took him so far away from her. Then of all things, in a busy street to run into her of all people - spunky read-headed Scots woman Pippa Bromley who had broken his heart five long years ago.
It had been his marriage proposal coupled with his decision to join the navy and settle down that had sent the free spirited Pippa packing that December day when they were both just 22 years old. Pippa had said that she didn't want to be tied down, that the little white house, changing nappies, and knitting cardigans wasn't for her. So she set out with her cameras to see the world and by taking photographs to make sure that other people saw everything too.
After a long discussion over a cup of coffee of how they had each ended up in Japan, Pippa expressed her apologies for leaving him like she did and how she knew all along that she was wrong for rejecting just a perfect match as him. It took Pippa a few days to convince James that she was really sorry but when he finally learned to forgive her and risk offering her his heart again but this time she accepted and as soon as he returned to the states Pippa was there to meet him and they were married to the joy of his mother.
