I'm really going head over heels when it comes to French names, and names from the 1950's lately.

Simone-- This is a fave of mine, it's pretty and classy and not overused.
Paulette-- I prefer Pauline, the -ette ending is not a sound I love.
Suzette-- See above
Suzanne-- I like this, but not as much as I like Susan.
Lisette-- See above.
Cosette-- See above.
Cecile- I like Cecilia, but Cecile looks and sounds masculine to me, even though I know it isn't.
Lucille-- I like this well enough, it's more refreshing than Lucy.
Therese-- Love, Love, Love! I think this makes a good mn.
Margaux-- I prefer Margot.
Laurentine-- This is okay, but I much prefer Lawrencia.
Marie-- This is ok, I prefer Maria.
Veronique-- Veronica I like, this, not so much.
Adeline-- This does nothing for me.
Sandrine-- I prefer Sandra.
Celestine--I like Celeste, the -ine on the end makes this too frilly for my tastes.
Delphine-- NMS
Elodie-- I like Melody, this seems incomplete.
Genevieve-- Pretty, but on the rise in popularity and I don't like it enough for the popularity not to bother me.
Justine--It's ok.

None of those names strike me as being particularly "50s" though one list is definitely French.
How is it these names are "50s names"???
Especially names such as Linda, Bonnie and Sally - I'm 21 and know loads of people, from all over, with these names.

In the United States, at least, his list of "50s" names definitely did get a lot of use in that time period. You'll find exceptions to all the rules, of course--there's at least one Susan in my year at school--but for the most part, they're names more associated with Baby Boomers than, say, Generation X.

I thought that's where he may have been getting his list but I still don't see any of them as standing out in the 1950s sort of way. They're just too common and I find it odd that they're referred to as "50s names."
Especially Linda. That one just popped out. But I'm in Miami and hispanics love that name.
