Laurie is my sister's name, we pronounce it LAWR-ee rather than LOR-ee though.
I like it well enough. I don't think that it sounds nicknamey, but I grew up with it and I do think that it sounds fine on its own.
If I were to choose among all the Laur- names though my favorite would actually be Laurel.
