It's certainly among my favorite Irish girls' names.

It's actually one of the few Irish names I really like (I'm an American and always mess up with pronunciations). I really love the look and sound of the name.

I like Aoife a lot.... but I worry thatit would get spelled or pronounced wrong a lot.

it has a very pretty soundI really like the sound of it (AY-fuh, correct? like Eva but with a softer v/f sound). Very pretty and peaceful. It makes me think of a light breeze blowing over a flower-filled pasture. I think that preserving the original spelling would be very nice if it honors or represents a family member or your ethnic heritage. The spelling may cause confusion for the child, especially while in school. I have a name that is pronounced differently than it is spelled phoenetically and as an adult still have to spell my first name for people. I love my name but still wish my mother had picked a simpler spelling.

whether pronounced EE-fa or AY-fa, it has a very pretty soundResearching the name a little more, I now see that it is properly pronounced EE-fa. That too has a good sound.

I would name a dd Niamh, dh would name her Aoife. I'd be the one to give in because I adore Aoife so much too. I love the sound of Aoife. Dh loves the fact that in mythology she was a warrior princess. He loves the imagery.Have you considered mns?

I have a sister called Niamh & If I ever had a girl I would consider naming Her Aoife then her middle name would be Niamh.

I agree, the story is great. It's what most attracts me to the name.
