[Opinions] Re: Elsah, Ferrex, & Fitch +
in reply to a message by LMS
I like Elsa, it's nice. It makes me think "European" a little bit (because I've mostly encountered this name on European Ilsas and Ilses). And it reminds me a little bit of dairy cows, but not cloyingly, more quaintly.
Elsah does look overwrought to me, like someone tried to make it look like an archaic Hebrew name from the Bible. Or just tried to make it "different," in a distracting way that adds nothing nice. I'm inclined to read it El-saa with the aa as in "sad."
Ferrex sounds like a poison to get rid of an infestation of ferrets... noticeably artificial.
Fitch as a first name? I dunno - it reminds me unavoidably of Abercrombie & Fitch, the frat-boy-image clothing line that uses images of naked hairless young men on its billboards. I can't help it - I've been to university recently, and you get tired of seeing A&F. Aside from that I think it's far, far too surnamey for a first name. Like naming a guy Smith. Finch is a tiny bird, so that wouldn't, uh, fly for a guy... Firth might.
I should add that none of these names would surprise me much, and although my comments probably seem pretty negative, I would not put these in the worst category of names. They'd be decent. They just have no appeal for me.

Ya know, I am around a lot of the annoying Abercrombie and Fitch clothing too, and I never even thought of it that way. I suppose that name is out! Thanks.
