A twist of fate brought this name to my attention a few days ago, and I've been fixated on it ever since. I don't really care at all that it means something sorta sweet in some exotic language, although I did investigate Khmer pronunciation just enough to convince myself that the hard -ch- sound I prefer is in fact more or less authentic to the language. I'm mostly just tickled with the sound. It's so cool! It's kinda like Flannery (=cool) and kinda like Chatterley (=secretly cool!), and seems like a word that would be unique and new for people yet linguistically familiar and comfortable for English speakers, a great name for an author, an inoffensive, even interesting, name to follow Doctor or Professor, but nothing too exotic for the police ticker or for yelling out the back door. Also it's a geologic term if you spell it Channery. PS I like rocks.
So yeah, I'm glad I got that out. Thank you BtNers.
Special input needed on spelling (Channary vs Channery) and potential middle names (Channary Sibylla is my fave at the moment).
PPS nn will be Chippi, obviously.
