[Opinions] Chantilly
This is the French word for whipped cream (prn: shahn-teh-yee). WDYTO it for a name? Just wondering. I know the meaning's kind of tacky, but I don't think the sound is all that bad.

A big no-no for me because of the whipped cream association, even if some people in the US might not get it. It just sounds like a stripper or a porn actress. If you really want it, I agree with the others that it would be ok to use it as a nickname for Chantelle.

My first though was "whipped cream", I don't like it because of that. can you imagine the teasing if the child will be heavy....

can you imagine the teasing if the child will be heavy....Chantilly isn't commonly used in reference to whipped cream in the United States. IIRC, Maridawn is American (correct me if I'm wrong, Maridawn?), and so her theoretical fat daughter wouldn't have problems involving her weight and name being connected. :)Array

My name is Chantel, and my nickname is Chantilly or Chantilly Lace. I'd go with Chantel nn Chantilly.

Good luck getting any American to say anything but shan-TILL-ee. I love the Big Bopper, but I'm afraid I don't love him enough to approve Chantilly as a first name. ;) Middle name, maybe.Array

I instantly think Chantilly lace and that's kind of sweet. I don't think I'd use it ever but it's one of those names that I think is cute, even pretty and delight in seeing used. :)

But if you're in the U.S., at least, the majority of people would pronounce it shan-TIL-lee. And I'm with Sabrina--reminds me of the song, too. BTW, my sister had a friend that had a little girl named Chantelle (she's probably a teenager by now, we haven't seen her since she was a toddler) and my sister called her Chantilly sometimes and sang "Chantilly Lace" to her. I'm not overly fond of Chantelle but it's much better than Chantilly, either prn., imo.
(edited to add Chantelle stuff)
