[Opinions] Friday
Friday as a feminine name. Thoughts?
I'm not sure how I feel on it at the moment--Thursday is still my day-name of choice by far, but Friday as a mn has its appeal for me.

Personally I don't like day of week as names at all (but a lot of people seem to, even though I can't really see why), and with Friday there are are the Robinson Crusoe associations as well.
Neat as a middle name, but addressing a woman as Friday would feel harsh to me. Fried.
I really like it [m]
I knew a very nice girl named Friday. It's my favorite 'week day' name.

Friday is male to me.
I prefer Thursday.

His girl Friday
I think of it as all girl.

actually...
the term "girl Friday" derives from Man Friday, an idiom taken from Robinson Crusoe:

To be honest, there are a lot more pop culture references to male Fridays than to female ones, and "Girl Friday" isn't exactly lovers' talk (it's essentially calling her "loyal servant"). So while it's fine if you see it as a feminine name, I'm not sure I'd use the title to a film in which no one is actually named Friday as proof. :)

Thanks.
I was thinking of Friday Next.

Ditto..
I don't like it. The fry sound is too harsh, especially for a feminine name, in my opinion.
Not a fan, but it's not horrible ...
In all honesty, I can't really picture it as a name at all. The only weekday names I can really picture with genders are Saturday (because of the name Saturn) and Sunday (because the syllable Son is in it). I know that Wednesday should probably be feminine to me, with the massive influence the Adams family has obviously had in my life, but still weekdays don't usually have genders for me.
Now that I think about it, though, since "Friday" means "Freya's Day" it only makes sense that it would be feminine.
The name itself doesn't really do it for me. Having the word "Fry" in your name, especially if you're a girl, just isn't all that attractive to me ... granted, the names Freya and Frigg (from which the Fri derives) aren't attractive to me either. You could do worse though ... Monday be even less attractive to me.

I like it. It's very spunky, but the nn Fri would be a bit unfortunate. As a mn, it's great.
Thursday is nice too, btw. :)

. . . because of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series. The titular character has a son and daughter named Friday and Tuesday respectively.
But it does have a nice sound considered simply as a word.

That's why I like Thursday so well--I know the reference, don't worry. :)
It is portrayed as rather masculine in general--Robinson Crusoe, Dragnet, Thursday Next, etc--but I can't help thinking of the film His Girl Friday and imagining if she was a girl called Friday rather than a "girl Friday", you see. :)

I know a hamster named Friday!
Actually I like Friday better than Thursday. I like it slightly better on a boy, but it's cool on a girl as well. It might have to be added onto my list of hypothetical ridiculous children - Doc, Getgood, and Friday.
Man I wish I knew someone named Friday! That would be great. Imagine.
Anyway I approve I think.
