Help[Opinions] Reminds me of Rapunzel

I tried reading the novel's excerpt Amazon has there, but couldn't get past the weird present tense writing ("Zel rests her weight against the windowsill and leans out" vs. "Zel rested her weight on the windowsill and leaned/leant out", for example). Needless to say, that didn't inspire me to add the book to my collection, even though I'm a fairy tale nerd and Rapunzel is one of my favourite stories.
