I thought it was just another spelling of Malachi. This spelling makes me want to say ma-LATCH-ee.
I prefer the Malachi spelling, but overall, I dislike the name. It's too fussy sounding for me. And Kai seems to be catching on as a "cool"/trendy NN, so I can see its use increasing.
