Pavlos would be able to tell you ... but he's not often around. It is my impression that in ancient Greek the -eu- combination was pronounced more or less like the English word "you", but in modern Greek it is indeed given the -ef- sound you suggest. So that would fit perfectly if your character inhabits a modern novel!
