[Opinions] Ealasaid
I'm really liking this name at the minute. The only problem is pronounciation. It's Scots Gaelic, and according to my (usually quite reliable) name book, is pronounced YAL-a-satch. I do like this pronounciation, but I think it would be too difficult for most people to get their heads round. What other spellings can you think of that wouldn't look too made up or kree'Atyve?

I understand your liking the name-I've got a liking for Scots names too-but I think you'd be handing a child a life time of "How do you pronounce that?Oh, Really??" unless she actually lives in a Gaelic -speaking community. (possible, of course.)

According to namenerds.com (not sure on the accuracy, btw), it's pronounced YAH-luh-sutch or EL-uh-sutch. I definitely like the "look" of Ealasaid, but not the pronunciation at all. :( I like Elspeth, also a Scottish form of Elizabeth, and easier to spell and pronounce imo. As for changing the spelling of Ealasaid so it would be easier to pronounce, I'd say don't do it. I really dislike kre8tiv spellings of any kind, for the most part. Sorry. :-/

just spell it Ealasaid who cares if people may not be able to pronounce it the first time, my name is danielle and people can read that without saying DANy-el
