Oh dear...(m)I guess this is a full blown naming trend that I am just not behind (although it's better than many). Here's the thing: I don't understand why anyone would choose a long complicated name, but already have a short hip nn picked out. Particularly for a dog, honestly...it's just so complicated and I find it pretentious (although as a disclaimer I do not necessarily find you pretentious). However, apart from that (which is just my opinion after all), Kai does not work as a nn for Aeschylus since there is no "kai" sound in the name. In the English speaking world, Aeschylus is pronounced ES-ki-lus, in Ancient Greek I think it would have been more like ay-SKOO-los (based on research on Greek pronunciation, I'm not an expert). You can see that Kai doesn't make sense as a nn -- Essy would fit better. All that said, I actually think Aeschylus is a fine name for a dog (bit much for a kid, though) and Kai is even better, for a dog or child :-)
