I love John. I don't think it's boring :), nothing with as much history attached can be boring IMO. This is one of those names where there is a reason why it's been used so much and it certainly isn't another Jayden-esque overuse/boringness.
John Gideon is fine but not a personal favourite because I don't like Gideon. It's not too Biblical, I don't think.
John Bertram is my top 10 combo.
i posted in the past about trying to spice John up a bit and these were the combos I had:
John Frederick
John Sylvester
John Felix
John Lachlan
John Meredith (though probably in the minority for this :) )
John Peregrine
John Sidney
John Tierney
John Augustus
John Abraham
John Grigor
John Aubrey
John Sebastian
