[Opinions] Nyx
I am obsessed with this name! It's become one of my favorite mn's, and I have several favored combos with Nyx in the mn position, including:Persephone Nyx
Sapphira Nyx
Zephyra Nyx
Delilah
Layla Nyx
Nydia Nyx
Lorelei Nyx
Veronica NyxReally, to my ear, almost any multisyllabic name ending in A works as a fn for Nyx, including Arabella, Camellia, Cecelia, Claudia, Octavia, Paloma, Victoria, etcetera (though I am somewhat pickier than that - but not much! I love this name!).My problem is, I can't come up with a truly satisfactory combo with Nyx in the fn position. It's tougher than it looks. I do have some ideas about it, of course:Nyx Akane
Nyx Alaia
Nyx Alexis
Nyx Alyssa
Nyx Anaïs
Nyx Athena
Nyx Calista
Nyx Damaris (I'm prn this deh-MAIR-is)
Nyx Elektra
Nyx Elena
Nyx Larissa
Nyx Lizette
Nyx Naomi
Nyx Nayeli
Nyx VictoriaMany of y'all know how much I like assonance, alliteration, and, to some extent (often a greater extent than many of you), themeyness (or at least, heightened awareness of meanings within combos). For example, I kinda like Nyx-oriented mn's that start with vowels, and sorta dislike ones that start with S or soft C (given the S sound ending of Nyx), though a great one could persuade me. Given my eclectic tendencies, can y'all come up with any more suggestions? WDYT of what I've suggested so far? Which one is the best, iyo?
ETA prn of Damaris

I know you didn't really ask for my opinion on the name Nyx itself, but since you are obsessed with it I thought I would mention one little thing. Nyx is very similiar to Nix, which is a word meaning null or veto. I don't like it for that very reason (although I like the way it looks and sounds and don't mind it as a middle name), but since you like it I will give you some suggestions.Zephyrine Nyx
Seraphina Nyx
Genevieve Nyx
Guinevere Nyx
Clementine Nyx
Leonora Nyx
Luna Nyx
Magdalena Nyx
Ophelia Nyx
Penelope Nyx
Tzippora Nyx
Caledonia Nyx
Nyx Isolde
Nyx Astrid
Nyx Ingrid
Nyx FreyaPersonally, of all the names on your list I like:
Sapphira Nyx
Zephyra Nyx
Nyx Anaïs

Thanks very much for your ideas! I think I like Luna Nyx, Nyx Isolde and Nyx Astrid the best, though they are all obviously carefully thought out and lovely.I'm aware of the 'nix' similarity, but I choose to ignore it. ;D Thanks for your good intentions with that, and all your suggestions, they are very appreciated. :-)

I love Nyx and like Marija, I prefer the pronunciation NEEKS. Those are all wonderful combos you have there. I like Persephone Nyx and Sapphira Nyx best. Those two are particularly striking =)Mn suggestions for Nyx (sorry if some of these have already been mentioned):Nyx Persephone
Nyx Calanthe
Nyx Ophelia
Nyx Phaedra
Nyx Odessa
Nyx Pomona
Nyx Mireille/Mireia
Nyx Marigold
Nyx Harmony
Nyx Leilani
Nyx Carys
Nyx Juliet
Nyx Tigerlily
Nyx Butterfly
Nyx Eowyn

It feels like your suggestions are all drawn from my own faves list! How wonderful of you, you clever thing! Nyx Harmony, Nyx Tigerlily, and Nyx Butterfly are fantastic, but I also love the others. You rock! =D

Not to brag, but I think I've got one!Nyx Eudoxia - I mean, c'mon, it's got the echoed x without sounding too repetitive, and the flow works well for me. ;o) Really, what's not to love? I also like Nyx Meritxell, which has the double-x look, but not the repeated x sound. It's nice, but I don't love it like Nyx Eudoxia. Plus, the meanings are opposite of each other: "night" v. "midday." :oSThere's also Nyx Ruxandra, which IMO, is a winner also. You're right; it's harder than it looks! My brain already hurts, lol.I love all the combos you came up with Nyx as the MN, and of the combos w/Nyx as the FN, I absolutely adore Nyx Elektra.

Good call! You're right about the Xs. Same for Meritxell and Ruxandra (of which I'm sure our friend Array would approve, yes?). Thanks for the bright ideas!

Lillian, I love your naming style. I was just telling someone five minutes ago that if I had guts I would name a future daughter Persephone Nyx. *grin* Also, I like Lilith Nyx.Nyx Anais is beautiful. I did skim the other replies, so hopefully I don't repeat anything. Here goes..Nyx Amara
Nyx Amira
Nyx Amethyst
Nyx Esmeralda
Nyx Indigo
Nyx Isis
Nyx Kore
Nyx Lilia
Nyx Persephone (hey, why not?)
Nyx Selene
Nyx VioletWow, I am having the most difficult time with this! I personally prefer Nyx as a middle name, and I think I have trouble putting a short name like Nyx in the fn spot. I hope these give you some inspiration, though!

Nyx Amethyst and Nyx Indigo are fantastic ideas! So are all the others, esp Nyx Isis. Wow! Thanks so much for your kind compliment and great suggestions. =D

A question, my thoughts, and a long list ;-)How are you pronouncing Nyx? I much prefer the Greek pronunciation of NEEKS. I like (because I'm obsessed with Greek names and prefer them used together):
Persephone Nyx --I like Nyx Persephone better because I don't like the nee sounds together
Sapphira Nyx --I love this and it may be my favorite on your list
Zephyra Nyx --I also love this.
Nyx Athena --I really like this.
Nyx Calista --I like this, but prefer Kallista (also Greek, just not in the database).
Nyx Elektra --I love this, especially since it is the Greek spelling.
Nyx Elena --I love this.
Nyx Larissa --I also love this, but then Larissa is my all-time favorite girls' name. ;-)Other names you may like (sticking to my Greek name obsession, some aren't in the database):
Alexandra Nyx / Nyx Alexandra
Andromeda Nyx / Nyx Andromeda
Arianthe Nyx / Nyx Arianthe
Aranthea Nyx / Nyx Aranthea
Antheia Nyx / Nyx Antheia
Amalthea Nyx / Nyx Amalthea
Althea Nyx / Nyx Althea

holy cow! What a list! I can't begin to decide which ones I like best! Although Kleopatra Nyx certainly leaps out - great idea! And I really like Nyx Angelike, the Greek spelling makes it that much better. =DHave to admit, I'm using the Americanized Nicks prn, though Neeks is growing on me.Thanks for so many wonderful ideas! I'm going to have to take an afternoon to plow through them all - and I look forward to doing just that. Thanks again. :-)

I like Sapphira Nyx best of those with Nyx as a MN (with the sidenote that I pron. Sapphira as sah-FEE-rah). Of the ones with Nyx as a FN I like Nyx Anaïs best. Also Nyx Noémi (Noemi) would be nice I think, instead of Nyx Naomi.
Since you like alliteration I'd also like to suggest Nimue Nyx.
aother suggestions:
Aysel Nyx (like the moon - night)
Nathalie Nyx (Christmas day - night)
Roxana Nyx (bright/star - night)
Serena Nyx (serene - night)
Ligeia Nyx (clear-voiced - night)
Sable Nyx (black - night)
ETA: the pronunciation of Nyx, is just like the Dutch word for 'nothing', which is 'niks'. So that's why, although I like the name, I wouldn't use it, and I wouldn't like to see it used as a FN for any kid. It would be like naming your child 'nothing' to me.
(and in some cruel way it would be funny to have the twins Nyx and Nemo, which would be like naming them 'nothing' and 'nobody' then :P)

Thanks for your beautiful ideas, they're all very nice. Nimue Nyx and Nyx Noémi are lovely. Sable Nyx is great too, she sounds like a superheroine! =DI'm prn Sapphira the same way you do, btw. I did know about the similarity between Nyx and the Dutch word for 'nothing;' David said the same thing about the German word (is it nicht?). But it's the Greek 'night' meaning I love, of course. Though your comment about Nyx and Nemo did make me LOL!Thanks again, babe :-)

I like Nyx Callista and Nyx Elena. Nyx Roshanna (softer variant of Roxanna) love this! "night star"
Nyx Alicia "noble night type"
Nyx Asherah
Nyx Ashanti
Nyx Eudocia "night seems well"
Nyx Roshanara "night light of the assembly"
Nyx Alastriona
Nyx Augusta "great night" - love this!
Nyx Anastasia "night resurrection"
Nyx Astraea "night star"
Nyx Constanza "constant night"
Nyx Custodia "night gaurdian"
Nyx Faustina "lucky night"
Nyx Genista
Nyx Lucasta - love this!
Nyx Modesta
Nyx Tempestra "stormy night"I personally wouldn't use Nyx as a fn, though it looks really cool, it sounds too much like to nix something.

Nyx Nightingale is kind of jumping out at me. WDYT of that? It is a little themey, but I like the alliteration and the rhythmWhat about:

Nyx Nephele
Nyx Sapphira
Nyx Serena
Nyx Aylen
Nyx Ligeia
Nyx Clarity
Nyx Salome
Nyx Pacifica
Nyx Lucine
Nyx Aysun

I love this, Nightingale being one of my top three faves. I did think of it, but wasn't sure about the themeyness being too much, or the two Ns being too much, etcetera. But hey, who am I kiddn? I love themeyness and alliteration. In fact, truth to tell, my thought about linking Nyx and Nightingale was that Nyx would make an ass-kickingly cool nn for Nightingale. I used that on Games the other day.I love all your suggestions (you chose names with great meanings!), but these really stand out for me:Nyx Azure - very pretty, I also like Azura Nyx, WDYT?
Nyx Nephele (Pavlos would approve, I imagine)
Nyx Pacifica - I love this
Nyx Lucine - love this too!
Nyx Andromeda - this is gorgeous, as Cambria saidI also grooved on Nyx Clarity, as I have a good friend with a daughter named Clarity (mn Leigh). Thanks for so many good ideas!
