Help[Facts] Last Name
My husband's last name is Cravatt. I have search for the meaning, but have not been able to come up with a meaning. Their family comes from the Bahama Island. Could you help me with this. I was thinking it was a French name.

Cravatt sounds like the French word "cravate", which means "(neck-)tie, cravat". The origin of the word is German. The former German word for a Croat was "Krawat". The Croats used to wear these typical ties, and so their ties got the name "Krawat" as well. The French took over the expression for the ties and so did some other languages, eg.:
