If you were to discover a whole new planet, totally habitable, and you were to begin a whole new civilization there, what would you name it? Not something weird like Tatooine or whatever. Unless you wanted to name it Tatooine, which is fine.... But like if you crash-landed on a planet and you couldn't get back to Earth, and you and the rest of your crew were forced to start life all over again. What would name your new home?

Mar's or Mars if Mars wasn't a planet already, because it would be "Mar's planet" (my planet).

Other possibilities would include: Taranis, New-Netherland, Tycho, Marsland, Constantine, Haven, Nyx, Sepp, Bakar

Well, I'd want to get together with the crew and to all brainstorm and vote on one together.

I'd probably like to name it after a heroic member who died or something getting there or setting up the colony. Or, since it's habitable, make contact with any native intelligent life and find out what their name for it is.

Failing those two, I'd perhaps name it after what it looked like from space (Marble, Blue, etc), or a conspicuous feature of the planet (Twomoon, etc.), or perhaps I'd just name it Home or Haven or Newlife or something like that.

That's the way I was thinking too.

After all, if you've crashed your space-craft, your first though isn't, "What do we call this place?"
I gave a somewhat similiar answer, on the "Writing Room" board.
It's an interesting question.
