I love seeing Detroit come up in birth announcements. Makes me wonder if people have ever been there before. :-P

Tell me about it. My dear friend who lives in a suburb of Detroit refuses to ask his (camp, far-away) friends to voluntarily visit. Instead, he says, "If you're ever in a plane that crashes near here, give me a call!"

My brother lives in Detroit proper, and he's had to pause phone conversations to listen to gunshots. :-/ Not kidding, either.
Of course, he points out that there are some lovely gems inside Detroit that it takes a bit of time and knowledge to discover. I believe him, but the rest of the city really overshadows those aspect. Pity.
