Help[Opinions] Scottish BAs 2006 - girls
Have been looking at full list of names given to babies in Scotland in 2006 - http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files1/stats/pop-names-06-t4.pdf. Only got through the girls so far, and picked out some bad ones - wdyt?

Arwen, Elbereth - clearly quite a few ringer parents here!
Quite weird to see that with all the interesting spellings absolutely no one was given my name, Lora, last year.
anyway on your picks...
Breeze could be an attempt to anglicize the Irish name Brid / Bride, a form of Bridget...But then again that's probably just be wishful thinking
I agree with the other posters that Calum is a gorgeous name but male only! Milton, Jack, Dalziel and Yves likewise. Although I have to admit I do semi like Yves on a girl but she would have an easier life if it was spelt Eve.
pmsl at Lemony, a misguided homage to Lemony Snicket!? G has to be the absolute worst though, but closely followed by Gauge-Emma (in 2nd place only because the poor soul has one nice name to fall back one). I would love to be there to watch their future teachers try to keep a straight face while reading the class register for the first time!

Just got round to reading the list in full. It's fascinating. You could be here all day going through the unusual spellings! A few more jumped out at me:
Demi-Lee - for the number of spelling variations (and it's horrible)
Glad - I wouldn't be with this name
Goldie - makes me think of the old Blue Peter dog!

Maggie-May - Parents were Rod Stewart fans?
Meah-Sharne - that would be a creative spelling of Mia-Sian? Odd combo as well.
Porphyria - thought this was a disease? I'm sure it's what King George died from (as in the film The Madness of King George).
Trinny - someone's mum's a fan of What Not To Wear?
And how many variations of Abigail and Lily would you like?
And for boys:
Ace
Diesel - Just not attractive connotations for a baby imo
Jock - thought this was just a nickname for Scots?
Mac - another typical nickname for a Scotsman. hope his surname doesn't start with Mac
P-jay - slang for pyjamas!
But the name which really wins the prize is:
Henri-Jay-Karl-Alexande - imagine having to write this on every form you fill out?

Thanks for posting this. I'm a little surprised how unconventional some of these "names" are. I'm also a bit surprised that certain names (mine, for instance) are used fairly often in Scotland. It'll take me awhile to go through the list, but what fun!

I agree that most of these are truly awful! Saying that, I can understand people choosing Serenity and Serendipity although I wouldn't personally use them. I also don't have a problem with Tate for a girl as I've never heard it on a boy. And it's a bit like Kate.
I'm sure Nana, Ping and Po probably have non-British parents. And in other countries, they're probably ok as names.
I know the actors Keith Allen (Lily's dad) and Tamzin Malleson have a baby daughter called Teddie. I think it's much better for a boy. And spelt Teddy. And then only as a nickname.

King -- Did they want a boy? Horrible
Lean - Like it but prefer Leanne
Lennix - I acutally like this one
Mason - SON!! SOOON people! It's a boy name.
