Isla and Russell met at an AA meeting where she had been attending for several years. At the time Russell was new to the group and had only been sober for 23 days. A few months past and they had been on a few dates when Russell asked Isla to move in with him, she was ecstatic and said yes. As soon as they moved in together Isla started to notice some odd behaviour from Russell. He would go out late, he stopped going to AA meetings and was always out of money. One night Russell came home and Isla could smell the alcohol the moment he stepped in the door. It was then she realised he had been going out and drinking again. She spoke to Russell once he had sobered up and he told her he didn't plan on quitting. She had been sober for the past 4 years and decided that she could not stay in a world where she was exposed to alcohol every day so she made the decision to leave Russell.
