Message: "Madden" - Behind the Name

I found the name Madden (b) a while ago and liked it, but recently I have been seeing it everywhere and I am really falling in love with it. I just have a couple questions:

1. I originally thought of the combo Madden Blake, but I'm not sure what I think of it anymore. What do you think of these combos OR can you think of any cute mn's for Madden?

Madden Oliver
Madden Julius
Madden Finley
Madden Riley

2. If I named a son Madden and called him Maddie/Maddy as a nn would that be too weird?

I like Madden. And I love the nickname Maddy. Definately go for the y spelling. Adding the ie to the end makes it look more feminine.

I should disclose that I also love when Matthews are called Matty by their parents. :)

Madden Blake and Madden Riley are the standouts to me.

Madden is just a surname to me, but as a fn, it sounds like a trendy cross between the ultra-trendy Madison & Maddox. NMSAA. And isn't there a football video game called "Madden NFL"? Any time I see Madden, I assume the parents are football and/or video game addicts. Also, "madden" is a verb, and one can be maddened (madden - 'to enflame with passion). :-/

I don't like surnames in general for boys or girls, but I would only use it as a first name if it was a family name. Madden is a fine Irish surname but I wouldn't want the word "mad" in a child's first name. And yes, calling a boy Maddy or Maddie just doesn't sound right in light of the fact that there are so many girl Maddy's nowadays.
If you like the sound of Maddy why not Matty short for Matthew?

Doesn't to madden mean to make someone angry? Besides that, I think it sounds ok. Out of your combos I like Riley and Oliver the best. Maddy wouldn't be too weird if only his family called him that.

I'm not a fan of this name, as it sounds a bit surnamey (like John Madden the NFL player), and it doesn't have a very nice meaning. However, I do like the nn Maddy and I don't think it would be weird because their are plenty of guys named Matthew nn Matty, and the two end up being said the same way.

I don't really like madden...it means to infuriate or make insane. Not very pleasant. But, my opinions:

Madden Blake - No. Blake is so unattractive.
Madden Oliver - Oliver's nice, but it's hard to separate the n and the o.
Madden Julius - Nice, I love Julius.
Madden Finley - Hate Finley.
Madden Riley - Hate Riley even more.

Well...my first instinct it to say no way, it wouldn't be too weird. And I do think it'd be okay. But it's not just that Maddie is usually on girls...this (hypothetical) kid is probably going to have five hypothetical Maddies in his class. Which might be awkward.

Also, it's such an overused name/nickname that I wouldn't be happy to see yet another Maddie, be they male, female, hermaphrodite or cyborg.

"To madden" means "to make crazy",(as in "maddening") so IMHO this is not a good name at all. But if this doesn't bother you, the best mns are Oliver and Julius.

Maddie/Maddy does sound a bit girly, because I associate it with Madeleine. But since it's ok for girls to go by Chris or Charlie, there's no reason why shouldn't be ok. for boys to have girly nns. And Madden is weird enough to my ears that a nn won't make it weirder.
