Holidays have suddenly become the crazy, psychotic, mess that truly makes us wonder about each other. The year with Starla in her terrible 2's and Zac at age 1 was the worst. That would be last.
Starla and Zac would not stop crying! It was as though it was preplanned-one stops, the other starts, and so on and soforth. Madeleine had just been married 3 months earlier. Megan's boyfriend was getting dangerously close to proposal, but unlike Jason, Noah didn't want to feel "forced" into marriage by family or like he "had" to be married. So, he was going to do it in an old-fashioned way. He was going to ask Jaden for her hand.
Plans went crazy when Henry and Will came home with tons of homework, Bernadette was mad at us for not letting her travel to Italy with the rest of her class, Gabe was working 20-hour days, Brandon wasn't getting into any colleges and Ava was not getting any responses from schools-period.
Enter the ever-arguing twin girls, and watch it crash and burn.
Madie and Jason, sitting at the table, telling us all the sweet things about their marriage. 2 babies are screaming in the background. And, as usual when she brags, you can see the look in Madeleine's face that she's trying to show up Megan. Megan looks at Noah, waiting for SOMETHING to change. Maybe a word or two about his job? Noah makes this his moment to pop the question-to Jaden.
Madie jumps up: "How dare you steal my husband's proposal?"
Turns out, Jason had discreetly asked for her hand.
A fight breaks out-verbally, of course-between Mad and Meg, the guys are standing off to the side, trying not to get involved, Jaden's trying to consult me about the proposal, Gabe's nodding off, Willa-who was pregnant with #2-is tending to Starla, who's crying, Ava and Brandon are talking about college, Bernadette's yelling about how "so-and-so's at the leaning tower," and the twins are doing homework. When Madeleine yells something that shocked us ALL.
"Well, we had to get married because I was PREGNANT!"
We were, to say the least, suprised.
To shorten the story, we got all the details, understood (though still disappointed), Jaden allowed the marriage of Megan and Noah to take place, and everyone shut up about their personal problems.
That, indeed, concludes the reason why holidays are tough around here,
