[Opinions] Gray
What do you think of the name Gray for a boy or girl? I have heard it as a boy's name before and kind of liked it, but recently saw Catch and Release with Jennifer Garner whose character's name is Gray. What are some possible combinations if you were to use Gray as a feminine name?

Oh god! That is my worst favorite movie of all time. Oh, those writers thought they were so cute and edgy, naming a girl Gray. Ugh. No, not for a girl. What a dumb idea. It's slightly handsome in a really pseudo-rich, contrived, ultra-modern, substanceless kind of way for a boy.Sorry. Nothing positive here.

Dull as dishwater. It's been popping up here and there on the board lately and I'm not too thrilled with the prospect if it gaining popularity. It's such a ho-hum cloudy day kind of name. I'd almost rather see a resurgence of those pink bubblegum names like Tiffany and Brittany than see a new generation of depressing colors. :-/

If you were to use it, I would really like it as a nn for Grayson, or Graysen or Graycen. Grayson (SON, obviously) looks more masculine to me. I have seen Graysen and Graycen on girls before. I think it's cute but not alone.

I can see it as a nn (Graham?). I don't like it, but I can see it. I cannot see it as a fn for either gender. Of all the names / ideas / places in the world, someone wants a gray child? Perhaps I'm being petulant because I got my first gray hair when I was 12. But still, I can't see this as a real name for either gender. Now, subtle allusions to grayness in names, like Griselda, don't bother me at all. In fact, I'm rather drawn to the name Griselda. But in-your-face Gray? No thanks.

Adelle likes it, I think. She came up with a few combos with it a while back.I agree with GasolineAllie. It reminds me of a foggy, overcast day when you just sit in your house and stare out the window.

I've always thought Gray sounds gloomy and damp, to be honest, like a dreary, drizzly day. I prefer it for a boy, but for either gender I think it's best as a nn. That way, if your child has a sunnier disposition, he/she has other options. Grace or Graham, nn Gray, for example. Using Gray...

I really dislike it on a girl. It's dull and a bit silly sounding in my opinion.I could stand it on a guy as a nickname for Graham? possibly. And it also looked as if it's spelt wrong. (We spell it Grey here)
